Max Brown, who represented NZ in Tokyo with his sprint canoe partner Kurtis Imrie in August, has been named the Waikato University Sportsman of the Year.
CurraNZ sponsored the national champions with product for their intensive training preparations and racing for the Olympics and we couldn't have been more proud of their performances against the world's best K2 1,000m canoeists.
Max posted about his latest accolade on Instagram:
Huge thanks to @waikatouniversity for being awarded the Sportsman of the year. Feels a bit strange winning an individual award whilst being part of a team. Shoutout to @kurtisimrie and the rest of the @nz_menskayak, wouldn’t be possible without all of you. 💪🏆
Thank you to family and friends who’ve always supported me with or without results 💛
Thank you @curranz.newzealand for the ongoing support 🍇
With a world ranking of 15th prior to the big race in Japan, Max (pictured above, right) and Kurtis were not really expected to be lining up at the Final A, but they battled through the heats to race the best of the best.
A careful game plan saw them power into fifth place.
Max first came across CurraNZ when his nutritionist told him to take a blackcurrant supplement for performance, recovery and general health.
He liked numerous things about CurraNZ - the capsule format made it easier to consume (compared to loose powder), the research behind the product was solid and the fact we are a New Zealand company.
Congratulations again Max on an amazing year of competition and accomplishments.
